Christy Marker is my brave, hardworking niece. In the autumn of 2012 she received the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer and began the harrowing treatment of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
Thankfully, she fought and won. She fought and won this battle with breast cancer at the young age of 39 and we are so grateful. She was near the end of completing her masters program with a month away from graduating. She had to decide to delay graduating that semester to undergo a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation. She completed her radiation treatment in June 2013, about a month after graduating with her masters. During this time, she was doing her internship and working. She became unemployed for two months post-graduation before she was offered a part time position where she had completed her internship.
Sadly she has acquired a mountain of medical bill debts from her life saving surgery and treatment which has snowballed into more debt in order to get by. Christy now works full time with multiple jobs slowly trying to get out from under the debt but it remains crippling. Recently, she has had to take another job and work on the weekends to support herself and continue to pay her debt which increases stress and those who love her fear it will compromise her health.
Please help me support Christy in lessening this crippling burden. It has been 6 years since her diagnosis and 5 since her treatment ended. Christy has worked hard and been dutiful about paying off her debts. Sadly, she has not been able to put much of a dent in them. Together, we can help her.
