Recovery from Hurricane Florence

My name is Annette Canady and my son, Matthew Gibble have been devastated from Hurricane Florence. We cannot live in the house right now because we had almost 2 feet of water in the house. The front porch is gone and part of the back porch. My son is trying to get the back porch raised up so it won't collapse. Not sure if we can salvage the house or not. FEMA has been out here but it will only cover certain things. I did not have insurance because they said I made my payment after 5:00 that day and it lapsed and I did not know it till the following month and it was to late to do anything about it. I tried to get another policy but they would not approve it because my house needed lots of repairs.
I have been unemployed for over a year and a half and now my son is doing what he can here so he can't work until we get some more stuff done around here. We would appreciate any help that you give and I know God will bless you.
My family moved in this house in 1963 and I moved back here in 2011, the year after my Mama passed away. This is the only real home that I have ever had except for the one we moved from, I don't remember much about that one because I was a little kid. This was my home and to watch my grandkids play where me, my brother and our friends played, was awesome. I know the house itself was just boards and paint but the memories are forever in my heart and my family's heart. I am uncertain what will happen next but I know God is working his plan in my life and Matthew's life.
The donations are being used to help us with some things that we lost and to use to help make the house livable again or to move. It is amazing the things we use that we take for granted, I was trying to open a can using the handheld opener and I had a really hard time because sometimes my hands swell and I don't have much strength in them. We use things like an electric can opener for so many years that we never think about not having one. Just minor things like that during stressful times will have you in tears.
We are so blessed to have family, friends and people we have never met to give from their heart...our hearts are overwhelmed with joy and love.
