Oakland's First Children's Book!

My name is Kamaria Lofton. I am an Oakland native, Mills College graduate, and author of Oakland's first children's book, "My City Is Oakland".
I need to raise $8,500 for the final printing cost to publish "My City Is Oakland". Your help and generosity is needed to make this dream a reality.
It is my goal to print "My City Is Oakland" in the summer of 2016 including recording an accompany song to go along with the book and will schedule to officially release 2016.
"My City Is Oakland" is a fun and exciting book for children, high-lighting the wonderfully diverse and culturally-rich place we call home: Oakland, California. This is the first in a series of seven children's books about this fascinating city that introduces younger and older readers alike to the history, landmarks and activities that make Oakland so great! "My City Is Oakland" is sure to spark fond memories of growing up in Oakland as well as be a guide for new Oaklanders. Readers will be able to re-live the memories of growing up in Oakland or make some new ones with this book.
Although I feel like I have accomplished many goals to insure success in my life, two years ago I found myself homeless and jobless after the house we were renting was sold (without giving us the proper time to find a new home) and I was forced to close down my preschool. With a new baby, a business involving children, my husband losing his job, and the soaring housing prices in Oakland we were never able to find a house for me to continue to operate my business.
Although it was one of the lowest times in my life it was also a time where I was inspired by the opportunity of a new beginning. I enjoyed motherhood with no interruptions and focused on researching and learning what it would take for me to publish my children's book series. During that time I wrote the other books in the Around The Lake Series.
To publish this book through my own company, Like The Moon Press means so much more to me than it would for the average author. Publishing "My City Is Oakland" will allow me to rebuild my family's quality of life and future as well as share this wonderful book with the world.
Any amount you can contribute to this project will be greatly appreciated and no amount it too small.
