Rise Haiti

Donation protected
Our goal is to raise 15,000 CHF to build a water purification system for the school of St. Ignace de Loyala in Bedou, Haiti. The school and the community are in desperate need of a clean water supply. Today, many members of the community have to commute to a neighboring city in order to buy water. The journey is quite long and requires a car, which most members do not have.
The supplied water will be used to satisfy the school’s needs while the exceeding amount will be sold to the local community at a reasonable and fair price. This will generate a sustainable source of revenue helping the school to continue its operation.

We need your help to support the community of Bedou! Donate today, even the smallest contribution goes a long way!

The following passages will give you a better idea of who we are and what we do. Feel free and welcome to contact us via Email  if you have any questions.

Project Overview
Rise Haiti is organized by a team of nine Master students from the University of St. Gallen. Together we want to improve the living and learning environment of children in a poor Haitian community. Our goal is to build a new water purification system for the school in Bedou until mid 2021.  To achieve this goal, we need your help!
Rise Haiti is a sustainable project founded in 2012. Our predecessors have contributed to improving the living conditions and education in Bedou. Yet, the community and the school  still need our and your help. Our promise is to generate a sustainable, positive impact for Haiti's people and children while providing the highest transparency on every penny spent.

Who are we?
A diverse team of nine Master students from the University of St. Gallen - Adèle, Alina, Anna, Davide, Domas, Maria, Maxence, Nicolas and Theresa . We are from all around the world - France, Moldova, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Guatemala and Switzerland. We are strongly engaged towards our common vision: Better education and living standards for the people of Haiti.

What is our purpose?
Improve the living and learning environment of children in the Haitian community of Bedou. We work together with our local partner NGO Foi et Joie Haiti, who champions public education and social equality. The provision of good education is crucial towards improving the future livelihoods of the children and the advancement of Haiti as a whole, where the majority of the population lives in severe poverty.

What have we achieved so far?
Since 2012, our predecessors have devoted significant amounts of time and effort to improve the quality of our partner school and to enable more children to get access to education. This includes the construction of a fully equipped kitchen, sanitary facilities, playgrounds and basketball fields, and the provision of laptops. In 2019/2020 Rise Haiti was able to add three more classrooms to the school, enabling 100 new children to attend the school. On our Facebook page  you can see photos and videos of these projects.

What is this year’s plan?
We will once again be working with the local partner school St. Ignace de Loyola in Bedou, where we will build a water purification system for the school. On the one hand this will provide the school and the community of Bedou with a clean water supply. On the other hand it will provide a sustainable revenue stream for the school. This is necessary as the school will have to cover the salaries of the teachers starting September 2022. We are strongly committed to ensure the continuance of the school in order to enable children to access education.

How are we going to achieve this?
We are trying to raise 15,000 CHF through this campaign and, on top of that, we organize multiple bake sales, events, and other activities, to raise as much money as possible. We put all our energy into this project and, if we succeed, we might even be able to fulfill other needs of the school in Bedou. As mentioned above, we know that transparency is crucial; therefore, like our predecessor we plan on visiting Haiti ourselves in Summer 2022, but this depends on the future development of Covid-19. However, we will document and share all the activities, struggles, successes, photos, and videos with you. You can read along on our various social media channels and in our e-mail updates.

How can you support us?
We highly appreciate every dollar, euro or Swiss franc you contribute to our project. However, we don’t just need money. If you do not have the financial means, you can share our GoFundme page on your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. You can also give us a like on Facebook , share our page with your friends and family, and follow us on Instagram , where we will give you regular updates on the project. The more people we reach with this campaign, the more successful we can be in improving the lives of the children in Bedou.

Thank you for giving your contribution to this project!

Nicolas, Anna, Theresa, Adèle, Davide, Dom, Alina, Maria and Maxence

Updates:

- 700 students are attending the school of Bedou (the number is increasing year after year).
- Recently, 9 students graduated. We are very happy to hear that and we hope many other will achieve this goal as well!
- Sister Carmen, a teacher of the school, installed 30 bee hives in July to produce honey for the school and community. We will help her to develop a business project for this initiative.
- We have organised a Running Challenge (the team will run 100km in one day)  to raise more funds.  It will take place on the 27th of February. Further  details on our webpage: https://www.rise-haiti.org/run-haiti
