Children of Ghana
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Sam, and I am a rising freshman at North Carolina State who recently traveled to Ghana, West Africa with a group of fifteen other students. We spent our time in the remote town of Krobo where we volunteered, helped with local construction, and taught in their elementary school. In just two weeks, we created loving friendships and amazing memories. Despite having so much in common with all of the people in Krobo, the differences in privileges and resources stood out right away. While teaching a fourth grade class of 34 young students, they only had roughly 10 pens to share between the whole group. At Krobo Elementary, a room with a sign indicating“Library” stands bare and empty with no books. English is the main language in Krobo, so imagine learning to read or write without any books. We all promised many of these kids that we would be shipping donations back to them from America, and now seeing the cost of this promise, I can understand why it hasn’t happened much in the past. With enough donations, these awesome kids won’t need to wait any longer and we can finally make our promise to Krobo come true.
