Justin's Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
Hi there!
Thankyou for visiting this page.
I'd like to shareJustins story with you and ask for your help.

Justin is a funny, caring and charsimatic 18 year old  High School Senior who has Prune Belly Syndrome and ESRD (end stage renal disease). Justin needs a Kidney transplant.

Prune Belly Syndrome, also knows as Eagle-Barrett Syndrome is a rare complex condition involving the kidneys, urinary system and muscles within his body. Justin's abdominal muscles are completely absent. His left kidney is non-functioning and his right is functioning at about 10%.

Justin has lived with Chronic Renal Failure his entire life. We have know ever since Justin was born that he would someday need a new kidney , if fact he will need more than one over the course of his life. We've had 18 years of dicsussions with his nephrologists, urologists,  countless lab tests, many medications and multiple surgeries to try to preserve his kidneys for as long as possible.  Recently Justins kidney function dropped low enough to begin the transplant process. In early December we attended a transplant class  at MaineMedical Center. Justin had 20 vials of blood drawn.

Justin is not on dialysis yet, however he is very close. We're have explored peritoneal dialysis however at this time we have decided to not move forward with that surgery.  Our goal, and hope is to be able to bypass the need for dialysis and go right to transplant.

Did you know that 22 people die every day while waiting for a kidney transplant? Ya, I didnt either! And only 50% of thoes on the "list" will recieve a kidney and thoes who are lucky enough to get one have about an 80-85% success rate. Cadaver kidneys  do not last as long as one from a living donor.  A kidney from a living donor can last 20+ years and tend to have better than 95% success rate.

Justin has type O blood therefore he can only acecpt a kidney from an O blood type donor. He can potentially wait up to 7 years on the "list" if there is not a suitable live doner for him.  Live kidney donation is the best option for Justin.  Justins Dad (Jim) is currently testing to see if he can be a compatible living donor for Justin.

The goal of this Gofundme page is to reach out to you for help.  We're  looking to raise money to aid in costs associated with Justins surgery and recovery,
Also time Jim and I will lose from work while Justin is in the hospital and during the early recovery period.

THANK YOU for reading. Please share on your FB, email this link to everyone you know,  the more people we can reach the better the chances are for Justin.
