Justin's Journey for a Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
I am writing this about my grandson, Justin Adams, to let everyone know about his current health challenge & how you can perhaps help.  Justin was born with spina bifida. From birth he faced many surgeries & challenges. But Justin is a fighter & he rose to each of these challenges with a strength & fortitude like no other. He defied the odds as well as the doctor’s prognosis, even when they said he would never walk. He has grown to be a fine young man with a full life. He has such a caring heart & has always been right there to help others.

Justin now has end stage kidney failure & has 3 options for treatment; dialysis, a kidney transplant from a deceased donor or a kidney transplant from a living donor. Dialysis is only a temporary solution, it’s not a cure. It’s very time consuming, physically exhausting & extremely hard on the body. It is also very expensive & it is likely that our insurance will not cover all of the cost.

We are racing against time because his kidney function is rapidly declining and we have been scheduled for a dialysis consultation next week.

So, we are now moving into another phase of the kidney transplant journey for Justin. So far, we are registered at The OSU Comprehensive Transplant Center in Columbus Ohio. We have to step up our game.

We are planning on applying at multiple transplant centers to increase Justin's odds of receiving a kidney as soon as possible. On good advice, I am researching hospitals in areas with large populations because it stands to reason that they will have larger numbers of donors. We are looking at applying at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD & Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Aside from appointments for registrations & evaluations, many of the test results are not shared between hospitals. This will require a lot of travel. Also, it is likely that our insurance will not reimburse us for the cost of the additional evaluations & tests.

In addition to the medical expenses not covered, there will be costs for gas, food, lodging & many other expenses.

I make this request on behalf of a young man who devotes every day of his life to making a positive difference to his family, friends & even strangers.
If you would like to contribute it would be greatly appreciated. If you can't, please say a prayer for us.  Either way, please share this fundraiser.

With grateful hearts, we thank you all for the love, prayers & friendship.
