How does a young family of six, so beautiful and blessed with love, recover from a searing tragedy that forever changes the course of their lives?
Justin and Sarah, high school sweethearts whose love blossomed for six years before their marriage in 2008, created a beautiful family with three precious children now aged 5, 3, and 2 (one with autism), with another child due to arrive near Thanksgiving 2017. Justin (a nursing home administrator) provided the income for the family, while Sarah (previously an elementary school teacher) tirelessly provided care and nurturing for their growing young family. Justin and Sarah relished their time together as a family in Bothell, WA at nights and on weekends, despite Justin’s demanding job that frequently required long hours and weekend work.
As an avid athlete who grew to 6’3”, 210 lbs., and with excellent speed, Justin loved playing competitive baseball from T-ball through his final two years as an all-conference outfielder at Central Washington University, where he culminated his career. Moving into the professional world as a nursing home administrator, Justin continued competing in recreational soccer for years afterward.
Unfortunately, despite a history of good fitness, Justin was diagnosed with high blood pressure (a hereditary trait) leading to a sudden and unexpected heart attack a year ago caused by a blocked artery (arteriosclerosis). Justin received excellent immediate care to resolve this health scare with a stent in the blocked artery, appropriate medication, restricted exercise, and monitoring. His heart health gradually improved to a point in the last month where he passed two separate stress tests with flying colors, earning a complete lifting of exercise restrictions.
While camping out last Saturday, July 22, 2017, near Deception Pass in NW Washington with his family and other Marshall relatives, Justin joined two of his cousins for a nonstrenuous trail bike ride. Shortly after a rest stop to tell his cousins what a great time he was having riding the trail with them, Justin suddenly suffered a second heart attack. Despite heroic first responder efforts to revive him from his wilderness-survival-trained cousin, two park rangers, paramedics, and hospital emergency room personnel, Justin passed away at the age of 33.
A man of strong faith, great integrity, and admirable family values, Justin will be missed terribly by Sarah and their precious children, along with countless other family and friends who loved him dearly.
If you are capable of donating, your contribution will greatly assist Sarah in restoring a sense of peace amidst this unimaginable tragedy and in continuing her efforts to provide for her children.
