El propósito de esta recaudación de fondos es para poder apoyar a la familia de Santiago con costos de asesoría legal para hacer justicia en su caso; costos relacionados al funeral y servicios de apoyo emocional. El lunes 17 de agosto, un vehículo atropello y asesino a Santiago Jaramillo - hijo único y esposo - mientras circulaba en su bicicleta en la vía Samborondón en Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Hasta el momento han pasado más de 10 días y las autoridades todavía no capturan al culpable o propuesto soluciones concretas a los desafíos de andar en bicicleta en esta carretera.

Esta recaudación de fondos apoyará a su familia.

¿Quien era Santiago? 

Santiago era músico, deportista, amante de los animales con el sueño de dejar este mundo un lugar mejor.

Más allá de atrapar al culpable y que su crimen no quede en la impunidad, Santiago hubiera querido un cambio real que ayude a evitar más perdidas de vidas.

Objetivo:

El propósito de esta recaudación de fondos es para:

- Cubrir los costos del funeral
- Servicios de apoyo emocional para la familia
- Asesoramiento legal

Cientos de ciclistas y peatones circulan diariamente por la vía a Samborondón, sorteando la poca iluminación y falta de seguridad, lo cual sumado a la imprudencia de los conductores y falta de control de la Comisión de Tránsito, hacen de esta una vía mortal.

Exigimos que las autoridades se comprometan a implementar medidas de seguridad para que nunca más un ciclista fallezca por la imprudencia de chóferes irresponsables

What Happened?

On the night of August 17th, Santiago Jaramillo was hit by a car in a hit and run while riding his bike on an unprotected bike lane in Guayaquil, Ecuador.  

While the incident has been covered in the press, the authorities have not yet found the culprit or proposed any concrete plans to protect the lives of other bikers or pedestrians using these lanes.

We need your help and support to ensure there is no impunity, and justice is served in this case in order to set a precedent to protect the lives of hundreds of other bikers like him. This fundraiser will provide financial support for his family. 

About Santiago:

Santiago was an only child; a husband; an avid athlete and an animal lover.  Santiago's mission was to make this world a better place and to be of help to others.

Friends continue to tell stories of his kindness; generosity and most importantly - his humility.

About Guayaquil:

Guayaquil is a coastal city in Ecuador that lacks the necessary network of robust and protective bike lanes that can ensure the security of bikers and pedestrians.

While bike lanes have been developed in recent years, bikers co-exist along speeding trucks and reckless drivers, endangering their lives on a daily basis. 

Goal:

The goal of this fundraiser is to:

- Cover Santiago's funeral related costs
- Grief counseling for the family 
- Cover legal team and related legal fees in order to seek justice
