Justice for Wyatt

If you're seeing this page, you know our dear friend Genevieve can really use the help and prayers of all of her friends right this moment.

Three years ago, Genevieve broke free from a domestic abuse relationship. Her experience was painful and something no person should ever have to go through. Speaking out about domestic violence isn’t easy. There is a lot of victim shaming and Genevieve has had her fair share. But it is important to get her story out. Because maybe if one person sees her strength, it will give them the strength to leave their abuser (#whyileft).

She got up the strength to take her son, and leave her husband with $50 in her pocket. Since then, she has gone from being penniless, living in a women's shelter to having a home of her own and steady income. She started her own green cleaning business and helped people clean out their estates. Recently, her father was diagnosed with cancer so she has taken a job with her father's company to help him out.

Genevieve is a kind caring soul. She loves helping people, now she needs our help.

Her recent trial has been difficult to say the least. Key witnesses were dismissed with no reason (including her psychiatrist who saw that she had PTSD as a battered spouse); evidence she thought was important to her side of the story was not entered or considered. Thursday, March 5th, she received the news that Wyatt was being taken out of her custody and that she would only get to see him 4 days a month.

She was the victim of domestic abuse. She has been terrorized, she has been threatened, but she will not be beaten. She needs money for an appeals lawyer and needs our help.

A little bit about the special nature of an appeals lawyer:

"An appeal is different from a standard legal case because you are not asking a judge or jury simply to decide guilt or innocence. Instead, you are asking an appellate court to evaluate the decision that a lower court judge or jury made, and to reverse or uphold that pre-existing decision. Although all licensed attorneys can legally file a motion for an appeal and argue a case in an appellate court, not all attorneys will handle appeals. Appeals tend to be very research intensive and require different skills then standard litigation"

"Appeals attorneys must research past precedent, or existing legal cases, to find “grounds for appeal.” “Grounds for appeal” refers to a reason why the decision of the lower court should be reversed. An appeals court will not simply reverse a lower court decision because you don’t like the verdict or because the appeals court would have decided differently" (http://enlightenme.com/appeal-attorney/).

"There is often a lot of pressure placed an appeal attorney, because for many clients, there is only one single chance of appeal. Only a higher court can change an existing decision or listen to an appeal. Under the law, you are entitled to one appeal" (http://enlightenme.com/appeal-attorney/).

This is Genevieve’s ONE shot at making things right and bringing home Wyatt to a safe and loving environment. This is especially difficult because she is in a county where legal system is not necessarily in her favor. Please help Genevieve fight for justice for Wyatt.
