Richard Taus is a heroic Vietnam vet. I am not exaggerating when I say heroic. He fought on the ground, and he fought in the air. In his free time, he helped with the orphanages where he was stationed. He became aware of one young boy who was on the "death list". Richard worked hard to gain the support needed to adopt the boy and bring him back to the states where his odds of survival would greatly increase. But Richard had to complete his tour in active duty first, and make it out alive, before he would be able to help him.

He survived the Tet Offensive. He flew over 200 dangerous helicopter rescue missions, and survived several crash landings. Following in his fathers footsteps, he quickly gained ranks and became a highly decorated and very well respected Lieutenant Colonel in the Army.

When he returned home to New York he did so as the father of his newly adopted son David.  Richard still had a great need to serve and protect the country he loved and all the people in it, but as a new father, he needed to work closer to home. This led him to accept the offer to become a Special Agent in the F.B.I. of New York.   It didn't take him long to discover money laundering, fraud, theft, weapons/drug trafficking among the CIA, FBI,  and many high ranking officials - all the way up to the vice president.

Each member of the F.B.I. is required to sign a yearly document stating that they are not aware of any fraud or corruption. Rich was ordered to sign this. He refused. He was also ordered to stop his investigations into what we now know of as the Iran-Contra scandal, Oliver Norths "Enterprise", and the K-Team, among oher things.  He refused that as well and instead attempted to go public with his findings. Unfortunately, he didn't realize the people he was informing of these crimes were the very people protecting them.

This made it essential to remove him from the public, and quickly before he risked the current vice presidents chance of winning the 1988 Presidential election.

First he was arrested for using a government card for personal use. (He had put $10 of fuel into his personal car when he was using it for work. It was an authorized transaction from 3 years earlier!)

This was to buy time. They had to fabricate a case against him at a state level if they were to get him locked up permanently.

Thus a make-shift child molestation case is born, with holes blown wide open in it from the very beginning. Probably the biggest hole being that the only 2 boys they could get to testify against Rich stated that he had abused them over the 4th of July holiday. Richard had documents and witness testimony stating that he was in another state the entire 4th of July holiday undergoing military training. This evidence was suppressed, among other evidence that cleared Rich of these charges without a doubt, including evidence that these two boys had their own criminal records which just happened to disappear after they testified against Rich.

Long story short, Richard was locked up in the "Attica" of prisons, Clinton Correctional Facility, with an unheard of sentence of 33-90 years based on testimony that wouldn't hold a shred of value in todays courts.

He has worked hard to have his case appealed and to be given a fair trial, but the court appointed attorneys don't have the knowledge, or to put it bluntly, the balls to fight such a high profile case. Rich needs a capable lawyer, and at his $7.25/week prison wage, the system has made sure he will never be able to afford one.

That is where we come in.  After 25 years in a maximum security prison, having been completely screwed over by the VERY SYSTEM and the VERY PEOPLE he served his life to protect - we owe it to him and ourselves to ensure that justice is served.

At 72 years old and now fighting the effects of Agent Orange, time is not on his side.  Lets help him so that he might live out his remaining years in peace with his son.  He most certainly deserves it.
