What Happened:
Jimmy is my nine-year-old Maltepoo dog. After school on 8/31, I came home to find her lethargic and not eating or drinking. We immediately took her to the vet, thinking she had heat stroke. We found out the sun didn’t do this to her- a person did. The vet told us that these injuries were not an accident or the result of a dog fight – these injuries were the result of abuse. Jimmy’s jaw and three of her ribs had been broken while I was at school and my mom was at work. She is staying connected to an IV at the hospital for a few days due to her excruciating pain and inability to eat and drink normally. We have a few suspects in mind, but don’t want to speculate on the internet.
Cost Explanation:
The most secure treatment for Jimmy is to receive surgery from a dental specialist. However, the 5-6,000 cost is far beyond my family’s means. The second best option is surgery from a regular surgeon, which would cost between 3 and 4,000. Right now, we plan on forgoing surgery and trying to let it heal on her own, keeping her in a loose mussel and having a surgery to allow her to be tube fed. At $1,700.00, this is the only treatment that we can (not really) afford.
A little more about Jimmy:
We suspect that this isn’t Jimmy’s first time being abused. About eight years ago, my brother brought Jimmy home after almost running her over on PCH. He tried to find her owner to no avail. She was covered in car grease, starving, and terrified. She came to us a skiddish dog, but is now the biggest sweetheart you’ll ever meet. She doesn’t hold grudges and just does her best to make everyone happy.
We made this go fund me just to give Jimmy the best chance. She doesn’t deserve to die at the hands of someone evil. She’s come so far. Yes, she’s technically lived eight years on borrowed time, but that’s not enough because she’s my best friend.
