It's taken me 3 weeks of lost time to get the courage to do this, despite the fact that time is the only factor that I'm doing this. But... I'm desperate.
My issue is about acknowledgement. Of what happened to me, and to others. And this is a fight that in 2017 we (mr, ms and mx victims) shouldn't have to be doing.
There are too many victims of sexual assault that barely even get to trial through lack of evidence. Around 5% of all reported rapes result in a successful conviction. It takes all the guts you have to even report it and then there is the rest. When it comes down to it, victim's are the people truly on trial.
The CPS can only state facts whilst the defence can use anything they can and will to convince the jury, and it works. Rapists walk free, and over the years it has become shockingly apparent to me that the victims are left with their demons to suffer, with a failing mental healthcare system that has nothing to offer.
My friends knew the outcome of my trial for x2 counts of rape in Oct 2015. It's difficult to understand that a judge can say in his summing up statement, 'there is no question or doubt that a rape happened', but my rapist is still found not guilty.
However, I have new information on my case that I can't legally discuss that could change potentially change everything.
Unfortunately, taking action means money and I have been given the first deadline of 11 September 2017 to submit evidence.
I am also in contact with the Sapphire Unit and the CPS.
Evidence Required
1. Medical Records
-GP - up to £50, requested, billed when released
-Bexley MH Crisis Team (not that there really is one) - up to £50, requested, billed when released.
-UCLH - up to £50, requested, billed when released
-QE - up to £50, requested, billed when released
-PP Hypnotherapist - charge still TBC
-RASASC - Records already obtained.
= Total approx £200 all included.
2. Consultant Psychiatrist Report for 2017
I am required to see a Consultant Psychiatrist as part of this issue.
Dr Ishrat Husain MBBS MRCPsychSpecialises in PTSD, Eos Clinic in London.
Able to see me within the week.
Formal Consultation plus detailed Medical Report
= Total quoted £300 all included.
3. Court Transcript
Court transcript for Defendant v Victoria Starr, Woolwich Crown Court, October 2015, x2 Rape
Transcription service outsourced by public sector to Ubiqus.
Request for transcription granted by judge HHJ Lawton.
= Total estimated quote £1161 + VAT (£232.20)
It's a lot of money that I just can't get together myself in just over a month.
This is pretty embarrassing to do something like this for myself. I'm not interested in the money at all but unfortunately, the public sector is.
The total this all amounts to is £1893.20.
If any extra is given it will be donated to the RASASC, who are an amazing organisation and are partly why i am still here. Any monies that end up reimbursed to me for this will all go back to RASASC.
I will post all proof. I am also doing overtime and putting my own money in as i can.
