Justice for Lincoln

My wife and I are trying to raise money to help get justice for Lincoln.
We adopted Lincoln as a puppy and had him for 2.5 years. We found out that we have a child on the way, and we had to make a tough decision to give Lincoln to a new owner being that Lincoln was not good with children. We wanted to find a home for him where he could be happy and not be crated because he would be around a child.
The guy that we gave him to seemed like it would have been a good fit for our Lincoln. We gave Lincoln to him for free, the only circumstance being that Lincoln finds his furever home.
It turned out though that after a week of having him, the new owenr decided that he didn't want Lincoln and had him euthanized. He did not contact us with his concerns about no longer wanting Lincoln. If he had done this, we would have taken Lincoln back in a heartbeat and continued to search for a loving family for him. The man we gave Lincoln to will not take responsibility for KILLING our sweet dog and is not returning any of our texts. We actually found out about what he did to Lincoln through a Facebook post on the Lancaster Humane Society's page.
We had a written contract with this man that stated he would do everything in his power to give Lincoln a loving home. We recently talked to an attorney about filing a civil lawsuit against him for what he did. The lawyer says that we have a good chance at winning our case, but all we could expect was a moral victory if we won. There would be no large settlement because this did not hurt us financially.
All this would accomplish is getting justice for Lincoln, which is all that we want.
Unfortunately the attorney is asking for a $2000 retainer, plus fees to file this civil suit.
