<div>On October 23, 2025, our little dog Cheese went on his usual afternoon walk with my mom at Central Park (Lake Elizabeth) in Fremont, CA.

<div>It was supposed to be a peaceful day.
</div>
<div>But out of nowhere, a large off-leash dog came charging at full speed.
</div>
<div>My mom had no time to react before the dog bit down on Cheese and refused to let go.
</div>

<div>She screamed and pulled with her bare hands, fighting to save him.
</div>
<div>Even when the owner arrived, she couldn’t control her dog.
</div>
<div>She had to call her man, and together they ripped their dog off of Cheese’s tiny body.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Cheese was covered in blood, shaking, and barely breathing.
</div>
<div>The men said they would “put their dog in the car,” but instead —
</div>
<div>they drove away.
</div>
<div>They left, as if nothing had happened.
</div>

</div>
<div>There were many witnesses, including park workers.
</div>
<div>But my mom was in shock — she wasn’t thinking about anything except saving him.
</div>

</div>
<div>We rushed Cheese to the emergency hospital.
</div>
<div>The vet told us his intestines were torn apart and his body covered in deep bite wounds.
</div>
<div>He went through major surgery, but he was in constant pain.
</div>
<div>He couldn’t eat, couldn’t move, and had to rely on tubes to survive.
</div>

<div>He developed infection, intestinal blockage, vomiting, and anemia.
</div>
<div>His little body suffered more than anyone should.
</div>

</div>
<div>For five long days in ICU, Cheese fought to live.
</div>
<div>Even when he could barely move, he would still look at us with those soft, trusting eyes —
</div>
<div>as if saying, “I’m trying… I want to stay.”
</div>

</div>
<div>But on the fifth day, he couldn’t fight anymore.
</div>
<div>Cheese passed away. He was only four years old.
</div>

</div>
<div>We borrowed so much money trying to save him — we would have done anything for him.
</div>
<div>But even after everything, he still left us. 
</div>

</div>
<div>The total medical cost reached $20,707, but no number can describe what he went through.
</div>
<div>He didn’t go peacefully — he suffered, and that’s what will forever break our hearts.
</div>

<div>Since that day, we’ve been doing everything we can.
</div>
<div>For a week, we couldn’t even breathe, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t talk about it.
</div>
<div>All we did was try to save him, minute by minute.
</div>

<div>Now, as I write this, my hands are still shaking.
</div>
<div>This is the first time we’ve had the strength to tell his story.
</div>

<div>We’ve been in contact with Animal Control, providing witness statements and every detail we remember.
</div>
<div>But a week has passed, and there’s still no sign of those two people or their dog.
</div>
<div>Every day feels heavier — like justice is slipping further away.
</div>
<div>We feel hopeless.
</div>
<div>We did everything we could, and still… Cheese is gone.
</div>

<div>My mom hasn’t been the same.
</div>
<div>She wakes up crying, hearing his last sounds, blaming herself.
</div>
<div>But it wasn’t her fault.
</div>
<div>It was their cruelty that took him from us.
</div>

<div>Cheese was our family.
</div>
<div>He was sweet, gentle, loving — pure joy in the shape of a little dog.
</div>
<div>Now the house is quiet. His bed is empty.
</div>
<div>We still expect to hear his footsteps, but he’s not here anymore.
