Justice and Healing for Grandma Huang

Donation protected
On Tuesday, January 8, 2019, an 88 year old grandmother Yik Oi Huang, suffered life threatening injuries after being brutally assaulted.  She was discovered unconscious at a nearby park after officers responded to a burglary call in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood.  She remains in critical condition and intensive care.

This brutal act of senseless violence left all of us heartbroken and emitted shockwaves throughout our community.  Our elders are being targeted because of their vulnerability and isolation. Crimes like these are often unreported because of fear, shame, and language barriers.

For over 30 years, Grandma Huang called Visitacion Valley her home and has befriended neighbors from different backgrounds despite speaking a different language. She cherishes spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her favorite activities including eating “dim sum” and making nutritious herbal soups for her loved ones. She loves watching Chinese soap operas on the television, and she would keep her mind sharp by memorizing the many actors’ names.  Grandma Huang is a “rosy-cheeked, jolly grandmother” and could be seen every morning at Visitacion Valley Playground keeping fit and active through exercise.

The family is very moved by the outpouring of support and hopes this tragedy can bring the entire community together to address community safety by addressing the causes and cycle of violence.

The funds raised will be used to support Grandma Huang and the family through this difficult time.  Whatever you can give is meaningful and so appreciated. Thank you.
