A reflective dog collar costs only $1 and helps stray dogs in India be seen by drivers. These collars reduce all too common accidents in which stray dogs get severely injured or die a slow and painful death. Your $1 donation can save a life!
The Story
India has the highest number of stray dogs in the world - somewhere around 30 million. Stray dogs roam the streets of Indian cities and frequently get hit by cars, especially at night. The highways are poorly lit, so motorists only see the animals at the last minute, once it’s already too late. Many stray dogs get severely injured or die a slow and painful death.
My husband Reet grew up in India, and we visit his family there periodically. Every time, we seek out organizations and animal shelters making a difference for stray dogs with their severely limited funds. We donate our time and money, but each time we don’t feel like we have done enough. We are heading back there in January, and this time we’ve resolved to raise funds for an awesome initiative.
Reflective dog collars are inexpensive and help drivers see stray dogs and reduce accidents, saving doggie lives and reducing suffering. Dogs with collars are also many times treated better by humans. We are partnering with existing organizations across India that are dedicated to stopping the suffering of stray dogs, to make sure that every dog they feed, vaccinate or sterilize has a reflective collar.
