Stephanie's Fight Cancer Fund!

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Mary Lou Rodgers. I am writing this because, as a good friend of Stephanie’s, I realize that she is facing what may well be the biggest battle of her life so far. She is up against a health diagnosis that no one wants to receive, the one that begins with the letter C- yes, Cancer. Last year Stephanie's brother, David, himself received a cancer diagnosis. Months into his battle, Stephanie received news that she had some health test results that she needed to follow up on. Since she was busy supporting her brother, who she so greatly admired- his health and care remained her priority. Stephanie's brother fought a brave battle. He had a wife, children, extended family, and many friends who loved him. Sadly his cancer moved quickly, and he lost his 9 month battle on the 30th of May of last year (2014). While Stephanie was still mourning her brother’s passing she received her own dire news. She has Stage II colon cancer.

Stephanie is a fighter and she is ready to do what is required to save her own life. However, she could really use our help because in addition to her own living expenses, she is the single mother of a 16 year old, her son James. Stephanie makes her living by working two jobs. Her passion is teaching and she teaches Tae Kwon Do to both children and adults. When Stephanie isn't at work, no money comes in! Both her jobs are dependent on her ability to be at work. With her cancer diagnosis, at this point she is not sure how much she will actually be able to work this year.

Stephanie will begin her brave battle on Monday, January 12th, 2015, with the installation of her chemo port. Then her step into the unknown commences! She is set to receive 25 treatments of radiation along with chemotherapy over the next five weeks. Once she successfully completes that cycle she will then have the surgery to remove the tumor!

There remain many unknowns....how will her body respond to the radiation and chemo? What side effects will she suffer? There could be any number of challenges ahead of her.

Stephanie is a strong woman, a spiritual woman, a mother, daughter, sister. She is also in remission from another disease, addiction. Stephanie has been a member of the AA fellowship since July 10, 2002. She is an active member, she has held service positions, and she sponsors women. Stephanie gives so much to so many!

This account is intended to hopefully give this self-supporting woman some ease and security that she can pay her bills, stay in her own home while she kicks cancer’s *ss, and cover medical expenses and items needed for her success- so that soon she can emerge healthy and cancer-free. No donation is too small and every penny of support will be put to good use, appreciated, and accepted with love!
