Safeway coworker needs our help!

When Val was hired at our store several years ago,  she was staying at a friends house temporarily.  At some point during the cold rainy weather, she had to move on from the warm, dry, safe place and  into her car out in the parking lot of our store. She had fallen on hard times, as many of us have, but has absolutely no family to speak of to ask for help.
We all fell in love with Val and her wonderful, unique, and downright quirkiness! She was taken under the wings of us "motherly" types and soon she was offered a room to rent by a caring coworker that lives near the store. All is well..no? Unfortunately, no.
Val started having episodes of dissiness, lightheadedness, headaches, and a multitude of other health issues. This went on for sometime, until a couple of us insisted she go see a doctor. Long story short, she was in the hospital for two weeks getting blood transfusions, fluids, rest and nourishment, in the form of healthy nutritious food, for which she was lacking.
A blood clot was found in her leg, and after many tests, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Since Val's car no longer ran, she quietly took the bus to and from treatment alone several times a week.  She was too weak with treatments and anemia to work so we put care baskets together for her, brought her soup, bought a Safeway gift card when we could, knowing that she has no family, no resources. Linda even bought her an inexpensive cell phone, where we programmed each of our phone numbers in and made Val promise to call when she needed anything.
After many months of treatment, the cancer had invaded her lymph nodes. She has used up all of her sick time and has been forced to come back to work. She is very close to her last chemo/radiation treatment and is only able to work a few grueling hours a week. She will continue to receive blood infusions for the next 12 months, in hopes of building her immune systems up to stave off the cancer.
Val is an amazing, caring, intelligent women who would give you the shirt off her back in your time of need. If she didn't have a shirt she'd sing you a song in her beautiful clear voice, or maybe write you precious  poem straight from her heart, she's that kind of gal, our Val!
Here's what Val needs, not wants, but needs:
nutritional food, vitamins, comfortable work shoes, clothes, bus fare, the ability to buy personal hygiene products, a new pillow, extra blanket, maybe a bicycle helmet and basket for the bike so that she can ride to the local library and fill that basket with rented books and maybe some rain gear for the winter months. These are everyday items for most of us, but for Val who has very little, and can live with very little, it would mean she is loved, and that's what she needs.
..please donate if you feel moved.
Thanks friends,
Heidi
