Jure Goes to College

We are raising $12,000 to cover the cost of the first year of tuition, room, board, and travel for Esnold Jure to attend Paul Quinn College in Dallas, TX. Jure is an extraordinary young man from Port-au-Prince and Aux Cadets, Haiti. He is deeply committed to making a difference in his country.
There are very limited opportunities for a college education in Haiti, and predictably Jure would not be able to attend college and make the difference he's committed to making. With your contribution, we can create a whole new future of what's possible for Jure and his community.
Jure came to English in Mind Institute in 2012 to learn English and was a voracious learner. He continued to improve his English and graduated from EIM in 2015. Jure then became a trip leader for EIM guiding volunteers around Haiti, and subsequently was hired to be a translator for MIMSI International, a nonprofit caring for pregnant women in rural southern Haiti. Jure also supported a documentary filmmaker working on a project about MIMSI, interviewing patients and providing translation.
Jure has also made a difference in Haiti through Project Hope Art . He has been working with Project Hope Art since 2013 as a translator and program coordinator. Jure has successfully led a program named Haiti Through the Eyes of the Wise Elders. In Aux Cadets, Jure is the co-founder of Espoir Futur Organisation (EFOR), a local grassroots organization that works with schoolchildren and teachers since 2014. In 2017, EFOR was selected to be a prototype of the ABCD development concept by Centre Haitien du Leadership et de l'Excellence, CLE and Jure has since then become an occasional speaker at CLE events.
Jure is fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole.
Paul Quinn College is the country's only urban "work college." As part of their participation, all students work between 300 and 400 hours per academic year in order to earn the full tuition assistance grant of $5,000 and to receive a cash payment of between $1,000 and $1,500. Students are permitted to work a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week. This brings the tuition cost down.
PQC students generally receive federal financial aid but because Jure is a Haitian citizen he is not eligible for aid. Therefore we are raising $12,000 for his first year's tuition and travel. Here is a breakdown of how the economics work. Out of a total tuition of $14,318, $5,000 will come from the work program which leaves $9,318. The remainder will go to travel and other basic expenses.
Attending PQC will give Jure a whole new future and will allow him to contribute and make an even bigger difference in Haiti.
