Juneteenth Passport Campaign

Dear White Allies,

It took two years after the ratification of the Emancipation Proclamation for all enslaved Black People in the United States to be (forcibly) “freed” from chattel slavery.

June 19, 1865 marks the inception of Juneteenth, the day Black people in the US mark as our Independence Day  . But this "emancipation" was only the beginning of the plight of newly freed Black people vying for state and personhood in America. Over the last 153 years Black people have endured daily occurrences insurmountable racial terror [both interpersonal and systemic violence] for daring to claim equitable parts in The American Experiment. White Supremacy still reigns supreme and Black people are still hyper disenfranchised.

Newly freed, without any due compensation, Black people left the plantations of the South and mass migrated to the cities of the North in search of family, safety and opportunity. These dreams were quickly met with the reality that anti-black racism is pervasive and deeply embedded in the practices of white people across the US. This racism manifests as social, political and economic disenfranchisement. Cyclically for a century and a half, what Black people build for themselves and the autonomy of our communities is either destroyed, co-opted or stolen.

I do not think black people have any space to exist in America without the threat of harm .

I would like to create a campaign that white people sponsor passports for as many black people as the funds raised will allow (I have set the  first benchmark for 20-25 passports). Creating the opportunity to continue our migration towards self determination, safety and statehood.

Passport Costs range from $150- $190
(Passport Photo, Application Fee, Mailing Fees)

Currently, the US government is implementing a new ID and Driver's License policy that in order for citizens to travel state to state they have to a "License within Compliance" or a passport.

Black people should be allowed to go anywhere in the US and have access to a great quality of life without the fear of harm; or be able to leave America at anytime.

My campaign will be individualistic and prioritize Black Queer Folks, Women and Children. I will start within my network and as the campaign grows the outreach will grow.

Writers Notes

White People this is your WORK!!

Repayment of Reparations is not a one time action or guilt payment. Reparations are a commitment to consistent ongoing funding of Black people, Black ideas and Black initiatives without the need to center your voice or inject  your ideas.

Talk to your white friends & family members. Disrupt your family gatherings to talk about anti-blackness and what white people can do to dismantle white supremacy. Encourage your white networks to continuously support Black people through decentralized economic allyship.

Share this campaign to start the conversation of the importance of reparations for Black people.

I encourage Black people to create reparations campaigns that feel relevant to the needs of your network and helps to alleviate issues you see in your community  (as often as you feel compelled) asking white people that have both access to resources and privileges  to reallocate that power to empower your projects.
