Jumping for Joe

Donation protected
On December 13, 2016, while vacationing in Mexico, Joe Sharron, avid kiteboarder, hiker, snowboarder, and loving husband, son and brother, was the victim of an accident which caused a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) that left him in a coma for a week and unable to breathe on his own. Joe was paralyzed below the neck.

Since that fateful day, going from intensive care unit to acute and sub-acute rehabilitation centers, Joe has undergone multiple surgeries, endured tremendous pain and ordeals, suffered discouraging setbacks, but also made remarkable progress in his recovery.

Through it all, Joe has never wavered in his resolve to get better and to regain the use of his body. Joe's condition would break the toughest of spirits, but it didn't break his. Joe's courage, positive attitude, optimistic outlook on life, and indomitable spirit fuel his burning desire to one day walk, shred the waves, and track the slopes again. His drive and unbreakable spirit are mindblowing, contagious, and powerfully inspiring. Thanks to his steely determination, tremendously hard and painful work, including PT and OT, and the support of his family and extensive circle of friends, and against all odds, Joe has made astonishing progress in regaining some motion, particularly in his left arm and leg.

But the road to recovery is a long and arduous one that will require not only continued medication and evolving therapy but also an adapted living environment, dedicated and customized equipment, and daily personal care assistance. All of these needs are tremendously costly and many of them won't be covered by his health insurance. Given Joe's incredible motivation and dedication, it would be a heartbreaking shame if financial constraints prevented him from realizing the full potential of his physical recovery. Your generous contribution to this fund will help remove some of the barriers that might otherwise stand in Joe's way, such as the purchase of an adapted wheelchair, or making his future home wheelchair-accessible, or defraying the cost of a daily personal care assistant.

Joe has already beaten many odds, and demonstrated that he deserves all the help he can get. Please, jump for Joe, help him move the mountain that stands in his way by making a generous donation to this fund. Joe will be forever grateful and you will get this great feeling in your heart that only comes from caring for a fellow human being in need.
