Memorial for Julio Lazo

Donation protected
Julio Lazo suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on May 11, 2017, at only 52 years old.  He left behind many who loved him, including, perhaps most tragically, his 10-year-old daughter, Melissa (Missy).  Missy is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1551, based out of Sylvan Park Elementary in Nashville.  Missy had "graduated" from Sylvan Park last year, but by staying in the troop, she was able to stay close to her 5th grade girl scout friends, even though they all went to different middle schools.  Julio brought Missy to her troop's meetings, and often helped out, a devoted dad and just a generally kind and helpful presence, always willing to pitch in.  Missy's fellow Girl Scout juniors were shocked and saddened to hear about his death and her loss, and want to do something to help Missy remember her father.  So, for their bronze award project, they are trying to raise enough money to fund a memorial to Julio, ideally a bench with a plaque, which they hope can be placed on the property of a community center that is currently under construction, very close to the Lazo family home, a place Missy could easily walk to.

Julio deserves a memorial.  He was an impressive guy.  Born in Peru, he survived political turmoil in his youth to make his way to the United States, and ended up here in Nashville, a family man with a successful career as an engineer at NES.  In addition to being kind and helpful, he was very intelligent and intellectual, and his bright mind lives on in the daughter he loved so much.  Please help us help Missy remember her Dad.

Your donation will go into a fund established by Troop  #1551, the proceeds of which will be used to arrange a memorial to Julio.  We need to raise this money by the end of the summer, as we need to complete our project by September 30th, 2017.

We are so grateful for any amount you can give!  Please also share the link to this gofundme campaign with your friends and family and help us give a very sweet girl who was too young to lose a parent a little comfort, and help us honor a father who exemplified many of the principles of the Girl Scout Law.

Thank you so much!
