Julian's Recovery Fund

On June 24th my 19 year old son Julian nearly lost his life in a terrible car accident. The car he was driving rolled over twice propelling him 50 feet out of the window. He landed on his head. Julian broke every bone in his face except for his teeth and lower jaw and had to be helicoptered to the Geisinger Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA . His head swelled so much we couldn’t even recognize our own son. A large part of his scull had to be removed to keep the building pressure from crushing his brain stem and permanently disabling or killing him. His left eye sank into his head because the supporting bones were crashed, his right eye was bulging out of his face. The skin was completely scraped off a third of his face. Both lungs were on ventilators, while another tube was socking out blood, bone fragments and fluids from his brain. When the reconstruction sergeant saw Julian’s head scan, he wouldn’t even schedule a surgery not expecting Julian to survive.

Miraculously, due to so many prayers and the wonders of modern medicine, my son did survive and after 10 days in an induced comma, 3 weeks in the hospital and another week in Moss’ rehab Center, he came back home with Traumatic Brain Injury, still missing a part of his scull.

His left wrist was broken, his right hand stopped working altogether. For a young man who only last year hiked 1,200 miles of the Appalachian trail, spent 50 days in Minnesota’s wilderness and generally had an untamed and adventurous spirit, the post accident life is dramatically limited and restricting. Before the accident Julian intended to go to California and explore life out West. In his present condition, he cannot drive for at least another year, does not even have a car anymore, cannot work and is not on disability. His medical bills and care are a heavy burden on me, who is also recovering from last year’s car accident.

I am reaching out to our friends and community to raise funds to help us get through this difficult time and to get Julian back on his path.

I thank you all in advance.
Julian’s mom, Rita.
