Julia's Transition Fund

Hi friends! I'm Julia, a graduate student of British literature in Michigan. I'm also a transgender women who has been out socially for about a year, and on HRT for a year and a half. Unfortunately, there are still many steps in my transition in order for me to feel comfortable and happy with my body. As grad school doesn't pay much money, and Medicaid doesn't always cover what's needed, I find myself asking for your help in covering parts of my transition. 

First, I'd like electrolysis to clear my facial hair. Frequent shaving is harmful to my skin, and stubble and beard shadow often contribute to me being misgendered in public. Electrolysis can be a slow, painful process, but it's an important one for me, and I have no way to afford it without help.

Second, I'd like to receive voice therapy to help make my voice sound more traditionally feminine. While this process can be done on one's own or with the help of apps and software, experts caution against doing so for risk of damaging vocal chords and other issues. Fortunately, I attend a school with an excellent speech pathology program which offers transgender voice therapy. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover this either, and I'm unable to pay out of pocket. 

Finally, I'd like to have facial feminization and gender confirmation surgeries someday. While these surgeries are likely some ways off, consultations and prep can also be very expensive.

Ultimately, while I'm ecstatic about my transition so far, it can be hard to still be misgendered so frequently in public, and to still feel like there's much more to go. Any little bit of help would be greatly appreciated as I go on this journey, so if you can and you're willing, please help me out.
