Judy Schluter has always been the one others could count on. She’s the kind of woman who shows up without being asked, gives without hesitation, and puts everyone she loves before herself. Now, for the first time, Judy is the one who needs help. On December 28th, Judy was hospitalized and received the devastating news of an aggressive cancer diagnosis the very next day. Tragically, that date marks exactly 11 years since she lost her only child, Maddie’s mom, to cervical cancer. No mother should have to endure that kind of pain once—let alone face another life-shattering diagnosis on the same date.

The cancer has already spread throughout Judy’s entire body, and she is facing an incredibly difficult and uncertain road ahead. While in the hospital, she also suffered a broken shoulder, adding even more pain, setbacks, and emotional strain to an already overwhelming situation. What makes this even harder is that Judy has barely ever been sick. She has always worked, always pushed through, and always taken care of her responsibilities—even when she didn’t feel well. Now, she is unable to work, and medical bills are mounting rapidly, along with everyday living expenses.

Her granddaughter Maddie has been her rock. Maddie works full time during the day, then spends every night at her grandma’s side, refusing to let her face this fight alone. Watching someone so young carry so much weight on her shoulders has been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
