Judicial Review for Manus

Manus Island Regional Processing Centre currenly holds over 800 asylum seekers and a significant number of them have been determined by the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Affairs (ICSA) as failed asylum seekers.
Many of the refugee determination assessments made by ICSA are frought with errors that require review by the Courts - before these men are sent back to face a real risk of torture, imprisonment and death.
The Papua New Guinea Constitution gives these men the right to judicial review of those decisions which label them as "non-refugees". However, the Australian and PNG Governments have made no efforts to ensure that these asylum seekers have access to the justice system in order to exercise this right and it now falls on independent lawyers to ensure that due process is followed and that these men are no longer denied their rights under law.
After four years in detention deportation of these "failed" asylum seekers began in February this year.
We have a small window of opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of these men and set in place a precedent for future asylum seekers and refugees.
Several small firms in PNG have indicated an interest in representing these men, with a cost estimate of $AUD5000 per asylum seeker to cover leave and application for judicial review at the National Court of PNG.
In court, once leave is granted, the errors and oversights of ICSA can be seen and overturned and these men can be properly assessed.
We need any and all help we can get to raise these funds. With ICSA and the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection publically aiming to close the centre in October this year, deportations are increasing every week.
To bring the first four clients to court. our initial goal is $20,000 - but we will continue to campaign, adovcate, crowdfund and fight to correct these errors and save more lives.
Please give as much or as little as you can and help these men exercise their legal and procedural rights.
