May 2019, Jude went to Nemours Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida for an MRI. His right eye was red and swollen for about a month prior and he had been complaining that his eye burned and was sensitive to light. We tried 3 different medications to treat Jude’s symptoms without any improvement. Within hours of completing the MRI, we got a call from Nemours notifying us that there was a tumor behind Jude’s right eye in his skull that was causing his symptoms. We were devastated.
A few weeks later, Jude was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, or LCH for short. LCH is a type of cancer that can damage tissue or cause tumors to form in one or more places in the body. Langerhans cells, which help regulate the immune system, are normally found throughout the body. LCH causes excess immature Langerhans cells to form tumors and can cause damage to healthy bones, organs, and tissue.
Few things are worse than learning your child has cancer. We have been on a roller coaster of emotions while trying to process everything and prepare for what's ahead. Jude is scheduled to start chemo on June 3rd and will continue treatment for 1 year. We are scared but hopeful. We know there is hope that everything will be okay in the end. We know so many people love and care about Jude. The outpouring of support has been wonderful. We WILL beat this.
Funds raised will go towards medical costs and general support for Jude’s fight against LCH in the year ahead. We are forever grateful for your prayers, kind words, love, and support.
