Jude Genova’s Bench Commemoration

Donation protected
Hello Friends of Jude Genova,

Now that the dust has settled, I want to thank everyone for attending Jude's funeral. My Dad would have loved to talk to each and every one of you, and he would have had the best day ever! I can almost hear his wheelchair buzzing down the church aisle with excitement to see everyone, and I know many of you can almost predict his opening line, "If I was any better I would be you."

Jude left his mark on so many people and we all know that he had a positive energy like no other. Each of us have so many memories, a special relationship, or other unique connection with Jude that allowed him to have a one-of-kind bond with so many people. To him, you were family!

Many of Jude's friends from the Village of Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Post Office, long-time friends over the years, or his extensive online community, have asked me what is being done in memory of my Dad. I have been thinking long and hard about what to do, talking to family and friends, and we have determined that we're going to commemorate a bench in the Village (his "sidewalk heaven") with a brass plague of Jude with his beloved peace sign. I have been corresponding with the Public Works Department with the City of Arroyo Grande, and the cost for the bench is approximately $2,500. Since I have received donation inquiries from about a dozen people and local AG Village businesses, I created a Go Fund Me account to organize the funds contributed for the bench commemoration. Any short-fall in funds will be donated from my brother and me, and we will be purchasing the bench on January 3, 2018.

Any excess funds will be donated to the Jude Santo Genova Foundation (a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation) which has the primarily focus of providing financial support to local San Luis Obispo County disabled people who need financial assistance to purchase a wheel chair, or other family/education need (i.e. scholarships to the children of disabled people). There will be a set cap each year, and we hope to improve the lives of as many people as possible. My Dad had a passion for helping people, and I want to ensure people are still being helped in Jude's memory.

Jude loved all of you, and I am so glad so many of you brought joy to his life, and he shined a light in yours. Too so many, he was a close friend, a mailman, or "Village Jude" who you saw during your first cup of coffee, on your morning walk, or just out and about town. I always called him the "Community Uplifter"of the AG Village.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. I look forward to seeing many of you over the holidays and hope to hear more stories about Jude.

Sincerely,

Nick Genova
