<div>Jude Hazard is a 15 year old kid from Sunderland and part of a very private and tight knitted family.

<div>"We had been told Jude had asthma for months, back and forth to the doctors, I wasn’t convinced, perhaps <strong>Mother's instinct, </strong>because when the doctor stated to come back in a month that very same day his breathing became worse.

<div>I took Jude straight to A&amp;E where after initial checks were done he was <strong>blue lighted to Freemans Hospital in Newcastle</strong> and had <strong>open heart surgery" </strong>
</div>

<div><strong>The OP:</strong>
</div>
<div>Surgeons removed an<strong> 8cm tumour from his heart,</strong> he also had a <strong>cardiac arrest while on the table</strong>, he <strong>flat lined for 2 minutes</strong>, they were told Jude could possibly have <strong>brain damage</strong> due to this.

<div>Jude finally came around and all was initially good.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They then sent off the tissue to be tested - It came back as<strong> cancer </strong>and they were unable to operate to remove the what was left of the cancer. <strong>Very aggressive and extremely rare. Only 35 cases out of 100million to ever have this and all in adults</strong>

<div>All throughout this recent episode the surgeons and doctors have all said what a strong, courageous boy Jude is.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jude is well liked and a very sociable kid. He loves nothing more than being out with friends, eating out and loves good food. He attends the gym daily, and is such a bright boy, loving, generous, caring and a thoughtful young man.
</div>

</div>
<div>And would not hurt a fly. Anyone that ever meets Jude praises him in what a polite lovely boy he is.
</div>

<div>We are so blessed to have a son like Jude.

<div>They have been told Jude has <strong>8-17 months</strong>- but this will not stop the fight to find a potential treatment - There are options abroad but it will take funding for the family to explore the options.

<div>The funds raised will be attributed towards Jude's medical treatment, hospital stay, any travel costs, and post-operative recovery. Any funds remaining will support his ongoing cardiac and cancer care.

<div><strong>Full Medical Diagnosis:</strong>
</div>
<div>Initial Presentation-
</div>
<div>Presentation: Admitted to Sunderland Royal Hospital on 13th July 2026 with a 3-week history of worsening shortness of breath. An echocardiogram revealed a left atrial heart mass.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Emergency Surgery</strong>: Transferred urgently to the Freeman Hospital. During emergency sternotomy on 14th July, the mass prolapsed and completely blocked blood flow through the heart.
</div>
<div>He was successfully placed on <strong>cardiac bypass</strong> by the surgical team.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Pathology Findings:
</div>
<div>A large (&gt;8 cm) malignant spindle cell tumour arising in the left atrium, identified as an intimal sarcoma (<strong>an exceptionally rare and aggressive vascular cancer).</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A separate metastatic nodule was identified and removed from the posterior mitral valve leaflet.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Genetic testing (FISH) confirmed an MDM2 gene amplification, characteristic of intimal sarcoma.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The tumor margins at the atrial mass site were close and incompletely removed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Staging &amp; Investigations
</div>
<div>Staging scans (CT, FDG-PET, and MRI) showed no clear evidence of distant metastatic spread elsewhere in the body.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, a multidisciplinary review of Jude's post-operative heart MRI concluded that <strong>abnormal tissue remaining near the mitral valve </strong>is likely small volume residual tumour rather than simple post-surgical healing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Treatment Recommendations &amp; Next Steps</strong>
</div>
<div>Surgery: Because the tumour involves the mitral valve root, further surgical removal<strong> is not </strong>considered feasible by the cardiothoracic team, and cardiac transplantation <strong>is not an option for cardiac sarcomas in the UK.</strong>
</div>

<div><strong>Current Status</strong>:
</div>
<div>The care team plans to offer a follow-up appointment to continue these discussions, and has also <strong>explored compassionate access to experimental MDM2 inhibitor medications </strong>through pharmaceutical companies at the family's request.
