A tribute to Juan

A week ago we lost a brother, a son, a relative, a friend and the most genuine and loving being with a heart of pure gold, Juan David Lucio Hernandez.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Juan, it'd be an understatement to say he touched the lives of everyone he encountered. Juan owned a smile that was as infectious as his energy and had a positive impact on all he met.
In moments like these we tend to wonder why, why did this happened to such a lovely human being? Surely his work on earth is done, but not without continuing to teach us lessons of perseverance, strength and positivism. Juan lived life to the fullest, dared to dream and turned those dreams into reality. His passion for life was contagious.
Juan was taken from us far too soon, but a person lives for as long as we carry him inside us, for as long as we ourselves live treasuring memories in common. His bright beautiful light will shine forever in our hearts guiding us through life every step of the way. Because Juan lived, there is more love in the world than there would have been without him.
All donations from this point forward will go towards Gabi’s education fund and future. Thank you all for all your love and support during these difficult times.

Who is Juan David Lucio?
He is a really good guy. He is one of those souls that knows how to make you laugh. He is a great friend who is always there for you. He is an artist, a Chef. He is a musician who can imitate Pearl Jam, and he plays golf almost as good as Tiger Woods! He is very emotional, he knows how to express love and gratitude for living. He has traveled the world and was part of CISV (Brazil ‘91, Norway ‘94, Egypt ‘98). He has fought for his dreams, he loves life and constantly fights for it.
Juan is all this, but most importantly he is Gabriel’s dad and Mirka’s husband. He is also Myriam and Guillermo’s son and Alex’s older brother. He is a grandson, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin and the best friend anyone could have.
Juan just turned 39 years old, and ever since he was 22 he has had several surgeries, and countless chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. He was stable for a couple of years, but a weird form of cancer reappeared in his brain and spine. Juan fights; he knows he beat cancer once and trusts he will beat it again. He doesn’t know how to give up.
A couple of months ago Juan underwent two very invasive surgeries to remove tumors from his brain and spine. Since then, he has been living at a hospital, doing extensive physiotherapy and having radiotherapy daily. More tumors remain and financial resources are not enough for what is left to come: We want to help Juan financially while he is unable to work (he may never be able to work as a chef again) and so that all his energy can go towards his recovery and his battle against cancer. This is why we ask for your help, and we created this chain among those of us who have laughed with him, who love him and who want to lend a hand to a great human being in time of need.

Quién es Juan David Lucio?
Es un tipazo. Un personaje que sabe hacer reír. El gran amigo que siempre está. Es chef (que mejor "papá" que un Chef?), un músico que imita a Pearl Jam. Es deportista y apasionado por el golf (y le encanta jugar cuando llueve). Un ser emocional y que se puede expresar con amor, así nunca haya aprendido ortografía. Ha viajado donde ha podido y por varios años estuvo en algunos campamentos de CISV (Brasil ‘91, Noruega ‘94, Egipto ‘98). Ha luchado por sus sueños, ama la vida y lucha por ella.
Juan es todo eso y sobretodo es el papá de Gabriel, el esposo de Mirka. Hijo de Myriam y Memo, y hermano de Alex. Nieto, tío, sobrino, primo y buen amigo.
Juan acaba de cumplir 39 años, y desde los 22, ha pasado por muchas cirugías, quimioterapias y radioterapias. Estuvo estable algunos años, y ahora un cáncer muy extraño está en su cerebro y espina dorsal. Juan lucha, sabe que ya salió una vez de ese limbo y que volverá a salir, él no sabe rendirse.
Hace dos meses tuvo sus últimas cirugías y desde entonces Juan vive en una clínica: mientras se recupera está en radioterapias, terapias físicas de movilidad y día a día lucha contra estos tumores que necesita que le quiten. Ahora los recursos son escasos (Juan no puede trabajar por ahora y posiblemente no podrá vovler a ejercer su profesión) y se necesitan para su recuperación, para terminar su tratamiento y para sacar adelante a su hijo de 5 años. Son indispensables para ganar la batalla contra el cáncer.
Por esto pedimos ayuda, y hacemos una cadena entre los que reímos con Juan, los que queremos verlo bien y untarnos de su buena vibra, los que queremos darle una mano en la lucha a este gran ser humano.

Jest naprawdę dobrym facetem. Jest jedną z tych osób, które potrafią sprawić, że się śmiejesz. Jest wspaniałym przyjacielem, który zawsze był i jest dla innych. Jest artystą, szefem kuchni. Kocha muzykę, potrafi naśladować Pearl Jam i gra w golfa prawie tak dobrze, jak Tiger Woods! Jest bardzo emocjonalny, wie, jak wyrazić miłość i wdzięczność za życie. Podróżował po świecie i był częścią CISV (Brazylia '91, Norwegia '94, Egipt '98). Walczył o swoje marzenia, kocha życie i nieustannie walczy o to żeby żyć!
Juan jest wszystkim co powyżej, ale co najważniejsze, jest tatą Gabriela i mężem Mirki. Jest także synem Myriam, Guillermo i starszym bratem Alex. Jest wnukiem, wujem, bratankiem, kuzynem i najlepszym przyjacielem jakiego można mieć.
Juan właśnie skończył 39 lat i od 22 roku życia przeszedł kilka operacji mózgu i kręgosłupa, a także niezliczoną ilość chemioterapii i radioterapii. Był stabilny przez kilka lat, ale ten rzadki typ raka sprawił, ze pojawił się ponownie w mózgu i kręgosłupie. Juan walczy: wie, że raz pokonał raka i ufa, że znów go pokona. On nie wie, jak się poddać.
Kilka miesięcy temu Juan przeszedł dwie bardzo inwazyjne operacje usunięcia guzów z mózgu i kręgosłupa. Od tego czasu mieszka w szpitalu, wykonuje rozległą fizjoterapię i codziennie przechodzi radioterapię. Niestety więcej guzów pozostało, a środki finansowe nie wystarczą na to, co ma nadejść. Chcemy pomóc Juanowi finansowo, gdyż nie jest on w stanie pracować (może już nigdy nie być w stanie pracować jako szef kuchni) i aby cała jego energia mogła iść w kierunku jego powrotu do zdrowia i walki z rakiem. Er ist ein wirklich guter Kerl. Er gehört zu den Menschen, die dich zum Lachen bringen können. Er ist ein wunderbarer Freund, der immer für andere da ist. Er ist Künstler, Küchenchef, er liebt Musik und kann Pearl Jam wunderbar treffend imitieren. Er ist sehr gefühlvoll, ein liebevoller Vater und Ehemann und steckt voller Lebensfreude. Er hat die Welt bereist und war Mitglied bei CISV (NGO für internationale Kinder- und Jugendbegegnungen). Er hat seine Träume verfolgt und liebt das Leben.
All dies beschreibt Juan recht treffend, aber vor allem ist er der Vater von Gabriel und Ehemann von Mirka. Er ist Sohn von Myriam und Guillermo und Alex´s älterer Bruder. Er ist Enkel, Onkel, Neffe, Cousin und der beste Freund den man haben kann.
Juan ist gerade 39 Jahre alt geworden und hatte seit dem 22. Lebensjahr mehrere Operationen am Gehirn und der Wirbelsäule, sowie mehrfache Chemo- und Bestrahlungstherapien. Juan kämpft: er weiß er hat den Krebs schon einmal besiegt und ist zuversichtlich dass er es wieder schafft. Aufgeben ist ihm völlig fremd.
Vor einigen Monaten musste Juan abermals zwei sehr invasive Operationen an Gehirn und Wirbelsäule über sich ergehen lassen. Seitdem befindet er sich im Krankenhaus wo er aufwändige Physiotherapie und tägliche Bestrahlungen durchmacht. Leider sind mehrere Metastasen übriggeblieben und die finanziellen Mittel reichen leider nicht für die Eingriffe die noch zu machen sind. Wir wollen ihm helfen da er nicht in der Lage ist zu arbeiten (vielleicht wird er nie wieder als Küchenchef arbeiten können) und damit seine ganze verbliebene Energie in die Heilung und die Rückkehr zu einem normalen Leben gehen kann.
