Help Juan Esteban keep dreaming!

Donation protected

Juan Esteban is 30 years old and he came to Australia from Medellín, Colombia. As many Australian migrants, he came with a suitcase full of dreams and goals to study English  so he could apply for better employment in the field of engineering.

After only 3 months of living in Australia, Juan Esteban suffered a major accident on his bicycle while working as a delivery man. Resulting from the accident, he was diagnosed with knee inflammation, stomach wounds, and  severe internal bleeding. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Juan Esteban was immediately placed in the intensive care unit at the St. Vincent Hospital where they performed two high risk surgeries.

Hospital staff felt that is was important to have a relative in Australia who was responsible for his situation, associated legal documents, and to have someone present in case of any complications so his immediate family made the expensive trip to Australia shortly after the accident.

The situation has tested the courage, faith, and strength of Juan and his family. Even after the surgeries, more complications appeared and the doctors had to put him in an induced coma and back into intensive care.

Additionally, they recently discovered that Juan has a blood infection and has been scheduled to begin treatment immediately which will continue for the next two years. Juan Esteban has lost 15 kgs and is currently recovering under special care.

All his dreams, hopes, and goals in Australia have been affected by the stress, worry, and physical disability caused by this accident. Although Juan´s medical insurance has been able to pay for some of the treatment, a large amount of the expense has not been covered due to Juan’s short residency in Australia. The uncertainty of the situation has created a great deal of financial stress for Juan´s loved ones, there are many outstanding bills, and the treatment for his blood infection needs to start as soon as possible.

The recovery has taken more time than expected and has left him temporarily unable to participate in many activities or physical labour. In addition to this, Juan´s family has already had to apply for multiple bank loans to make the initial trip to Australia and their tourist visa was approved for only a short amount of time. They will have to return to Colombia soon but with their current financial situation, they will not be able to afford the airfare.

Today, Juan would appreciate any financial support from the broader community. If you would like to donate, you can contribute directly through his bank or through this web page.
