On Wednesday night in Jerome, Idaho our friend and co-worker, Juan Chavez, was hit while riding his motorcycle. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. Fortunately another driver came upon the accident and was able to call for help.
Juan was flown to Boise in stable, but critical condition with a severely fractured left leg and several broken fingers on both hands.
Despite their best efforts doctors were unable to save his leg and it had to be amputated below the knee. Today he is having surgery on both of his hands.
Juan is currently intubated and sedated, but is responsive and seems to be aware of what's happening.
Juan and his fiancee also have a baby girl that just turned two weeks old, as well as three other young daughters.
He is expected to spend 3-4 weeks in Boise before he can be released/transferred to somewhere closer to home.
Juan is kind, caring, generous, hard-working and humble. He loves his family and has become like a family member to many of his co-workers.
We are raising money to help with ongoing medical expenses, loss of income, travel and lodging expenses for him and his family.
