Stephen Quigley Lyden, 20, of Ballston Lake, died in an accident on January 1, 2015 in Miami, Florida. He was born on September 26, 1994 in Nashua, NH, the son of Stephen and Kristin Vinje Lyden. Stephen graduated from LaSalle Institute of Troy in 2012 and was a Junior at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York.
Stephen had been employed at the Country Knolls Pool in Ballston Lake for many years until last summer when he became the Manager of the YMCA outdoor pool in Oneonta. As a Water Safety Instructor, Stephen inspired many students to learn to love the water as he did.
Stephen was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity to which he was deeply devoted. He shares an impenetrable bond with his brothers.
Stephen was full of life and was known for his radiant smile and late night long boarding. His genuine, playfully mischievous spirit gave him the capacity to make friendships that knew no boundaries.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings Peter, Christopher, and Emily; his grandmothers June Wright and Donna Lyden Passaretti; and his grandfather, Svein (Barbara) Vinje. Stephen was predeceased by his grandfathers Edward Wright, Anthony Passaretti, and L. Quigley Lyden. He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Stephen Q. Lyden Memorial Fund is aimed at helping Stephen's family and his friend Patrick, who sustained injuries during the accident that took Stephen's life. All proceeds go directly to the Lyden family to pay for funeral arrangements and related services.
