Support Kevin's Heart Surgery Recovery
Donation protected
I am starting a fundraiser for my Uncle Kevin (Mother's brother). My uncle is 61 years old and is unable to work because of heart issues. Between 2011-2012, he was experiencing heart problems. In October of 2018, he had a heart attack and 3 stents put in. Since then, his health has continued to decline. In April 2024, he had his second heart attack and had 2 more stents put in. In July of 2024, his stents could no longer keep up because of the progression of his heart disease. By then, his arteries were over 90% plugged. When he went to the cardiologist after this, he was told that he needed a Nuclear Stress Test right away. He was not able to get in until August 7th. After going to the cardiologist, they realized that he needed open-heart surgery. He went in for a triple bypass surgery on August 16th, where they harvested veins from his leg to be able to do the procedure.
He has been struggling to work because of his heart issues that have been going on for years. Because he has been unable to work a steady job, he hasn't been able to put away a nest egg for situations like this. As of now, he is behind on all his bills, including rent, car insurance, car loan, phone, electricity, and many other things. His landlord has been patient and understands his situation, but she needs to pay her bills as well.
My uncle's road to recovery is going to be a long one as he will be unable to find employment for at least another 4 months minimum. As of now, he has no retirement, no source of income, and the only resource that he can utilize is food stamps, which is $290.00 a month. He has applied for Social Security disability, but that can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years for approval. As of now, he is struggling to figure out how to make ends meet.
