JR Chip Away At Cancer

Five years ago our great friend John “JR” Reynolds fought valiantly for a year against almost insurmountable odds to beat advanced colon and liver cancer. The disease wrecked havoc on his body, involving 4 surgeries and 45 days of chemotherapy treatments. The battle he fought and won against this disease and the intense treatments necessary to beat it was so debilitating that it caused him to temporarily lose much of his memory and cognitive functions. Waging a successful battle against cancer indeed takes a tremendous physical toll, but it also takes an horrendous financial toll as well. To help ease the financial burden, his friends held a benefit/ charity Pro-Am golf tournament at Bear Lakes Country Club that succeeded in raising a significant amount of money that provided our friend some welcome and significant relief. Today, JR is currently fighting an even tougher and more painful battle against advanced tongue cancer. He was diagnosed with this disease in early January of this year and has spent a substantial part of the last nine months undergoing a heavy and devastating combination of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Unfortunately, the treatments have not been effective and JR will now be undergoing head/neck & oral surgery to remove the cancer. His physical limitations, including his future ability to speak and simple things such as the ability to feed himself going forward, remain very much uncertain at this time. Once again, all of these treatments and surgeries related to the tongue cancer are both horrifically taxing on both his body and on his financial health. Under all of this duress, JR has held up incredibly well and his spirits remain strong; while we can’t do much to help him physically, we are going to try and do everything in our power to help him financially.

Like we did 5 years ago, we will be holding a benefit/charity Pro Am golf tournament at Bear Lakes on Friday December 22. It will be a 12 o’clock shotgun and the field is limited to 80 players plus 20 Touring pros. The field will consist of 20 groups of 4 players, plus a Tour playing professional. The format will be a simple scramble and the object of the afternoon will be solely and exclusively to raise money for JR’s benefit and gather friends on his behalf. At the conclusion of the round, we will have 90 minutes of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, where JR can be surrounded by his friends helping to bolster his spirits; there will also be a plethora of extraordinary silent auction items at the post round cocktail party to help raise money for his benefit.If you would like to play, or otherwise participate in this wonderful cause, please see Facebook page JR Chip Away At CancerThank you one and all and may God bless each of you.
