My name is Danny Bernardy of NY, NY and I am trying to help my 90 year old grandfather whose house was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. He and my grandma find themselves homeless as a result.
The roof of his house was peeled off like the lid off a can of tuna and the entire home is water logged. It's a total loss.
My grandpa, JR, has lived with my grandma in that home for nearly 40 years.
To complicate matters, he is turning 91 and has very limited mobility (but can do mental acrobatics!!). To make matters worse, they have NEITHER flood nor homeowners insurance.
He is a hero to me and my whole family: A solid work ethic, a WWII vet, a father, brother, grand and great-grandfather with incredible wisdom.
And he's become homeless at nearly 91 years old. Who could have imagined ?
With gramps' permission my siblings and I have decided to take on the ambitious task of raising 1,000$ for each year of his life thus far-- I'm setting the goal at 91,000$ -- all funds raised will go directly into my grandparents checking account, following GoFundMe's beneficiary protocols in order to give my grandparents direct access to the funds. The funds will be used for the demolition and rebuild of the house that has created priceless memories for generations of the Bernardy family. If rebuilding on site is an impossibility, the funds will be used towards moving into an assisted living facility or the purchase of a new home at a different location.
