My life-long friend has already been through more life-altering tragedies than the average person could bear and now has been diagnosed with a tumor in her breast.
It all started with a nearly fatal rattlesnake bite at age 8. A bench vice fell off its bench onto her foot somewhere in her 20s. I'm not sure when but some sort of farm implement severed a good part of a thumb which a small town Dr. masterfully reattached. And to top it off, afler slipping on ice while covering a co-worker's shift at a hospital, a dislocated shoulder went misdiagnosed until surgery was required. This relatively simple surgery went horribly wrong leaving her permanently disabled with a frozen shoulder and very little use of her left arm. Did I mention that she was left handed? Moving on, a uterine cancer scare almost a year ago which, luckily, had a slight numbing effect on this latest diagnosis. And I thought my lactose intolerant buddy had it rough! Oh, yeah, she's lactose intolerant, also.
She's handled all previous situations essentially alone. She has tremendous support from her immediate family but this may be the straw that broke the camel's back.
This campaign hopefully will lessen the financial burden that comes with the struggle of just staying alive and dealing with the pain and psychological effects of this ordeal. Cancer is something that should be reserved for the guy who killed the puppy in John Wick, not for someone who has dedicated her life to caring for the myriad problematic animals that somehow show up at her house! She even kept field mouse pinkies alive for 5 years after their mother met an early demise.
She just has to help all of these creatures (excluding snakes) and perhaps this campaign will show some appreciation for her care.
