No Pressure - A Short Film

"No Pressure" is a UCF FILM BFA senior capstone project written and directed by Nia Cumberlander. Principal photography will take place in late October in Orlando and St. Petersburg, Florida.

The film centers a young, Black, lesbian couple -- Callie and Imani -- as they navigate their relationship and hypervisibility online.

Callie is a YouTuber on her come up, but her girlfriend Imani is having a hard time figuring out how she fits into the picture. When Callie proposes shooting a vlog to introduce their relationship to the world, things don't go as planned.

Hi! I’m Nia, the writer-director of “No Pressure.” This is my senior capstone project in the Film BFA program at the University of Central Florida.

Throughout my time at UCF, I have focused on making content about queer women of color . I think it’s important to create the representation you want to see, and this film is a continuation of that process for me. I hope to be a part of expanding the narrative of how Black people, LGBTQ+ folks, and women can be portrayed, while creating content that we can all relate to.




Our goal is to raise $3,500 to cover the costs of production, post-production, and distribution. Your contributions will go toward the following:

Locations: We are filming at 3 locations across 4 days in Orlando and St. Petersburg, one of which requires additional insurance due to scenes involving water.

Catering for Cast and Crew: This is an entirely volunteer production, and we want to ensure our ~30 person team -- crew, principal cast, and extras -- are well-fed during our production days.

Production Design: We have a talented production design team working to develop the aesthetic of Callie and Imani's world. Every prop, outfit, and set decorating element will be intentionally selected and utilized to complement the story and bring the environment to life.

Travel/Lodging: We will be renting an equipment truck to haul our equipment package, set dressing, and props. Additionally, because we intend to film in St. Petersburg with an overnight stay involved, we are covering lodging and gas expenses for our cast and crew.

Film Festival Submissions: After the capstone year-end screener in May 2020, we will be submitting this project to various film festivals across the country.

Contingency: Additional funds for in the event of on-set emergencies, unexpected expenses, etc.

$250 - #Meet+Greet (Time on Set AND Photo with Cast & Crew): If you are local to Orlando and/or are able to travel here on October 19 or 20, then you can spend a day on set with us and take a photo with our team. If you are unable to attend, then we will still mail a physical copy of our team photo(s).

$500 - #Influencer (Executive Producer Credit AND Mailed a Signed Copy of Official Movie Poster): The description says it all. You will receive an Executive Producer credit in our film and get an actual factual, signed POSTER commemorating this film.
