Jack's Journey To Health

Donation protected
Updated 4/26/2018

Jack, Liz, and their families would like to thank everyone who has supported them through this GoFundMe page. The generosity of friends, family, acquaintances and even strangers is wonderful to see. It’s hard to keep track of all the nice messages on social media, but we can assure you they mean a great deal to the Phillips and those close to them.
In this update, we’d like like to say that while Jack has made big strides and kept his determined spirit, there are still many unknowns and many unforeseen expenses as he continues his battle with Glioblastoma IV. Jack has been in and out of the hospital over the past few months with painful symptoms that have been very difficult to diagnose and then treat. We ask that you keep sharing Jack’s story and this site in order to financially support Jack’s medical treatment and rehabilitation so he can achieve a full recovery. Donations can also be made directly to Jack via Venmo. His username is @jack_phillips.

The funds raised so far helped to pay for Jack's family to get to Bangkok and for Jack's safe return to the US. With that in mind, here is a breakdown of how your donation will directly help Jack’s journey from now on:

Medical, rehabilitation, & treatment costs i.e. HBOT therapy, cranioplasty, medicines

Travel, eating, & lodging accommodations while at Penn and other facilities

Natural healing methods i.e. acupuncture, massage, herbal remedies

We want to also inform you that the Caringbridge site, which Jack’s mom has maintained since his initial surgery, will no longer be the main source for updates. From this point on, Jack and his family and friends will be posting photos and status updates to a Facebook page to keep everyone informed on his recovery [just click here: Jack’s Facebook page ]. Keep checking in for new updates & posting your lovely messages of support!

Liz and Jack landed in Thailand ready for the experience of a lifetime after recently completing undergrad at Penn State University. We couldn't have been more excited for them to embark on this adventure.

Jack's stroke and tumor removal were never part of the itinerary. The morning after they arrived, Jack had an excruciating headache and was having trouble walking. Liz called a taxi to the ER where Jack had emergency surgery to remove the bleeding brain tumor. She saved his life.

The doctors in Bangkok were able to remove the entire tumor from Jack's brain, and are optimistic about his recovery. His parents made the approximately 22 hour trek to Bangkok after hearing the news, and thankfully arrived safely.

As friends and family from afar, it's painful knowing there's only so much we can do to help from half a world away.

While he's improving every day, the money they saved for their trip of a lifetime will inevitably go toward recovery related causes. Anything we can do to alleviate Liz and Jack's financial burden might help turn a small part of their circumstances into something positive.
