Help us rebuild our life

Hello everyone! We are Alfredo and Cesar. Today we are calling to all of our friends, family and people in our community for help. Our apartment, the place that we called home in the East Village for over four years, the place that welcomed us into New York City, caught on fire in the early hours of the night on Wednesday, August 17 and was completely destroyed. Our dog Pierre woke us up with his barking around 2am and only because of him we were able to escape the fire in time. By the time we woke up, the fire and smoke had already invaded the whole house. The firefighters arrived on time and after several hours they managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other apartments and buildings.

Unfortunately, we did not have renters insurance and the building’s insurance will not cover any material loss or any of our belongings. Regardless, we are very fortunate to have been with Pierre who woke us up on time and for having a group of family and friends who have embraced us, taken us in, and supported us during this time. Thanks to that we are calm, however, we need support to start over. With all of our hearts we ask for help and want to use this fund to help us move with greater confidence in the next coming months. Hola, somos Alfredo y César. Hoy queremos hacer un llamado de apoyo a nuestra red de familia, amigos y a nuestras comunidades. Nuestro apartamento, el lugar que nos recibió en el East Village hace 4 años, cuando llegamos a Nueva York a construir una nueva vida juntos, se incendió en la madrugada del pasado miércoles 17 de Agosto y quedó completamente destruido.

Nuestro perro Pierre nos despertó con sus ladridos a eso de las 2 am y gracias a él pudimos escapar a tiempo del humo que ya invadía toda la casa. Los bomberos llegaron a tiempo y después de varias horas lograron controlar el fuego y evitar que se extendiera a otros apartamentos y edificios.

Desafortunadamente no contábamos con un seguro contra incendios y el seguro del edificio no cubrirá ninguna pérdida material ni nuestras pertenencias.

Somos muy afortunados por haber estado con Pierre que nos despertó a tiempo y por tener la familia de amigos que nos han abrazado, sostenido, y gracias a ello nos encontramos tranquilos.

Sin embargo, necesitamos apoyo para volver a empezar, y con todo el corazón queremos convocar este fondo que nos ayude a transitar con mayor confianza durante los próximos meses mientras el horizonte se va despejando.
