Funds for Ryan

Ryan Sweeney (age 8 ½) and his mom Katie have unfortunately just lost their dad/husband, Raymond, “RJ” to those that loved him.

RJ was diagnosed with lung cancer when Ryan was just nine months old and had been fighting hard these past 8 years. He no longer could work and Katie works nights at Nassau University Medical Center. She works nights  for a higher salary and because RJ was home to get Ryan on and off the bus for school. In the past 8 years RJ's cancer spread to his bones. He fought hard and endured tremendous pain but was determined to beat the cancer and stay alive for Ryan and Katie. Throughout his extensive treatment and hospital stays, they incurred massive medical bills some of which were not covered by Katie's insurance. 

On Dec 11th, RJ had his scheduled chemotherapy treatment. On Dec 12th he experienced severe pain and was unable to breathe and was rushed to the hospital. His lungs were filled with fluid and it was determined that he had viral pneumonia. He was put into an induced coma and never regained consciousness. Over the course of the next few weeks, the family lived through ups and downs including a collapsed lung and a fever of 106. RJ died early on Jan 1st.

Our goal is to help Katie and Ryan .Their financial situation is grim. While RJ was hospitalized, a pipe burst in the home and Katie had a car accident and totaled her car. RJ was 3 months shy of 20 years at his job which would have given him a death benefit. Katie has no life insurance or money for a funeral. She also cannot afford her home on her salary alone.
