My name is Kayla Griggs, I'm 22 years old and I have been diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma cancer.
A little about myself:
I'm from Bend, OR. when I was 10 years old I moved to Mexico as a missionary with my family and returned back to the US about 4 years ago to go to college. I have a passion for medicine and to help people in need and have been studying medicine through work and school since I returned from Mexico.
I have been living in Florida for th past 9 months and came to Oregon to visit family for the holidays. On December 27th 2014 while I was still in Oregon I was experiencing pain and swelling in my lower abdomen so I went to the ER. After running many tests, a CAT scan and an MRI the doctors descovered a mass about the size of a small fist. After spending three nights in the hospital and all the tests, they did a biopsy. After studying the biopsy and preliminary results showing a ovarian germ cell tumor, they've finally found that it is actually a very rare type of lymphoma called Anaplastic large cell lymphoma, ALK positive. The doctor told me that it is very treatable with chemotherapy but that I might have to look at alternative fertility options. So after discussing my fertility options I will be traveling to Portland to a fertility clinic to freeze some of my eggs, which is going to cost around $8000 including meds. And no my ohp won't cover it. But for right now I am still just taking it one day at time. In the mean time I still have many bills in Florida as well as in Oregon and now even more are coming up.
I am asking for prayers, positive thoughts and/or financial help while I battle and defeat this cancer.
Thank you!
Kayla
