Help Bring Lost Puppies Home To Joy

We are #TEAMJOY, friends of Joy who want to help support the search and rescue of her 2 canine babies that went missing in the middle of the night on Saturday 5/23 while under the care of a Rover sitter. The sitter negligently left them in the yard with a gate that has a known issue latching, and this was not checked when the dogs were put out into the yard. The dogs were able to get out as a result.

The sightings since then have been few and far between, but their fierce Momma will stop at nothing to find her babies. She is utilizing every search and rescue resource available at great personal costs. Even making fliers to post is costly (It's $.75/color copy at Office Max for just paper copies, and Joy had already made hundreds and hundreds of cardstock fliers!!) We want to help defray some of the expenses she is incurring as our way of supporting our friend during this extremely stressful time.

Joy has already utilized other low cost methods for finding her babies, such as the leveraging of social media; her original FB post has already been shared over 2.7k times. Her older daughter made a TikTok that has been seen by over 2.3 million viewers. People are pounding the pavement in record high temps going door to door asking for any Ring footage for areas where there have been sightings. Fliers have been delivered to vets and animal hospitals in the area. One of the dogs actually has a medical condition that affects his ability to eat. Nextdoor and Staydar and local pounds and shelters have been utilized/notified. The dogs were wearing collars and are microchipped. The microchip companies have been notified in case anyone either brings them to be checked for a chip or tries to re-chip the dogs.

In addition to these methods to find Charley and Nellie, Joy has tapped into a few other resources. (www.azhartt.org) HARTT, Inc. (Humane Animal Rescue and Trapping Team) is a volunteer-based Arizona nonprofit organization that humanely captures lost family pets, homeless dogs, and homeless cats who are severely injured. Typically, these animals cannot easily be leashed, picked up or captured through ordinary means. Bringing these animals to safety often requires extraordinary patience, specialized strategy, skill and equipment, as well as time and resource. Among other strategies, HARTT set up a bait trap station by a sighting area to lure the dogs w familiar items and scents linked to motion activated cameras.

Joy has also purchased 4 wildlife cameras at an expense of $250 apiece from Cabela's ($1,000 total). These will aid HARTT in having more eyes on the ground especially at night when the dogs are more likely to be on the move due to the excessive heat during the daytime. When this search is finished, Joy will be donating these 4 cameras to HARTT!!!

A drone company w thermal drones was deployed last night at a cost of $1600 at another solid sighting location. They are going to donate three more hours of their time and equipment when Joy’s next resource is utilized. A San Diego based search and rescue group w scent dogs and their handlers (4 teams of 1-2 dogs on three hour searches) was going be deployed next week at a cost of $6200. The thermal drones would be used again at this time by donation. Joy has just been notified that the scent dogs from San Diego cannot track a scent due to the excessive heat, which essentially turns the scent at the ground into a steam that goes air-bound, taking the tracking scent too high above ground for the dogs to find. They would have to wait until the temperatures drop to about 78 degrees maybe in the early morning, and that is not expected to happen until next weekend. In the meantime, Joy is looking for alternate scent dogs maybe locally that might be able to work in extreme heat.

Joy is using these additional measures for search and rescue because she CAN, but we would love to help take some of the financial burden off by asking if others will consider making a donation of any amount to help defray these costs and reduce some of the stress. Anything raised in excess of her costs will be donated back to HARTT and to the San Diego based search and rescue organization. For all the animal lovers out there, if you can imagine how awful it would be to have lost your animals like this, please help us support our friend Joy!! Thank you so much. We will post updates on the search and rescue deployments!!!
