Joyce Kilmer Elementary School is a Chicago Public School located in the community of Rogers Park, Chicago, IL. Currently, the school serves 763 students of which 93% are poverty stricken. Adding to this situation, 20% are disabled and 4% homeless.
In 2013 the K-8 library was closed down due to budgetary cutbacks by the Chicago Public Schools. As a result of this unfortunate situation, the library has not been used by students for the past six years. The existing small collection of fiction and nonfiction books is outdated and worn out. Everything needs to be replaced for the benefit of students.
We the staff are working to rebuild this vital program for our students. In order to make our library at Kilmer Elementary School an integral part of our learning community, we need your help! All raised funds will be used to purchase high quality literature (fiction and nonfiction books) for our students. Please help us to make this vision come true.
