Joyabaj Guatamala, Mission Trip

Donation protected
To all my Friends and Family,

I wanted to share with you a challenging ministry opportunity that has been presented to me and my sister Jennie Mckinney. June 23-July 1, we have been given the chance to travel to Guatemala with a non-profit organization called SEND ME. Our mission is to help others who are suffering in impoverished cultures. We work in collaboration with Missionary, Bill Vasey and local Guatemalan leaders and churches to identify families of exceptional need.

With more than half of the population living in extreme poverty, Guatemala is among the poorest of third world counties around the world. The income of many Guatemalans allow a day-to-day existence that addresses only their very basic needs. Health conditions are poor and living conditions are dreadful.

Joyabaj, a city located NW of Guatemala City has a regional population of 52,498. With nearly 60% of the population living below the national poverty line, education has not been a priority in this area because the children are needed to work to contribute to the family income. As a direct result, nearly 25% of the population is illiterate. Guatemala also has one of the highest malnutrition rates in the world. In Joyabaj, there is no safety net. No welfare agency, no food bank, no homeless shelter. Relief programs are not available. But WE are.

2010: We began the construction of sustainable housing for the 40-80 thousand widows displaced after the 36 year long civil war.

2013: We established Life Cycle Training Institute(LCTI), a vocational school to equip people with skills to generate income and become self-sufficient.

2014: We began ministering to children who have disabilities through Ray of Hope.

2015: We purchased additional property to complete the infrastructure of the community for widows and began personal outreaches to local communities.

2017: We built a church and partnered with the Jesus Film Project to produce the first movie in the K'iche' language and we began a school lunch program at Ray of Hope.

This year, our mission is to continue our efforts in helping those trapped in systemic poverty and to continuously work to transform the lives of the world’s poor – beginning in Joyabaj, Guatemala – though education and community development programs that empower the broken to become self-sufficient and live with dignity.

Our Need:
While a door has been opened for us to develop a greater heart of compassion for the people around the world, the exciting part is that there are ways you can share in this compassion too!

1. Prayers! Please pray for us and our group to prepare us for our visit and efforts as we serve the people in Joyabaj.

2. Another way you can be involved is to help provide financial support. Our need is to raise $5,000 to attend this trip and to purchase the hygiene, health and education products needed…and that is quite a challenge!

$5000 breakdown:
$3000 will be used directly for our travel needs.
$2000  will be used to purchase health and hygiene products and school supplies for roughly 100 children.
EVERYTHING EXTRA will be used to purchase children's bibles and water filters.

Whether your feel led to contribute financially, through prayer or both, all of your support is appreciated.

We look forward to serving in Guatemala and sharing with you our experiences when we return in July!
