Hello my fellow humans! My name is Hannah Love Anderson and I am calling out for support with my intention to raise money to continue my exciting journey of education and service to the planet.
As most of you know this past year my family and I had an opportunity to visit Costa Rica on a mission to purchase a business and move to this beautiful land. While on our travels, I fell in love. The beauty, the varying cultures and the sense of adventure, filled my heart with the endless possibilities of what I could create for my life and for others. I realized that I was finished with high school and was ready to start my adventures.
My mom and I began to search for the perfect program, one that would allow me to receive an entire year of college credit (36 credits), fully transferrable to the University of my choice, something that would incorporate both service and travel and most importantly a course that would nurture and build my personal leadership skills. Carpe Diem Latitudes program was the perfect fit. Carpe diem is a study abroad program working in association with Portland State University. I went through the written application process in late May and was set up for my personal interview in June, a few days after my interview I received my acceptance letter, completely ecstatic and honored knowing I was one of only 12 that had been accepted into the program
September 14th I set out on the journey of my life. And came back very rewarded.
This first semester included cross-cultural exploration with Spanish language study, outdoor adventure, service-learning, downtime for contemplation, and the opportunity to experience and learn about new ways of living. Some of the activities I participated in are personal development meetings, community based volunteering, such as beach clean ups, helping rural schools, teaching English, tree planting, studies on sustainability, and environmental conservation. We worked alongside Costa Rican scientists, patrolling the beaches for sea turtles that came ashore to lay eggs. We helped move eggs to protected nesting areas, and monitor nests as baby turtles hatch. It was truly an inspiring experience.
The latitudes program is the second semester. It is an independent semester, where I am working with an NGO in Costa Rica called Kids Saving the Rainforest. I work with wildlife in a rehabilitation and conservation setting daily. It's perfect because it's an awesome job and its in the same area my family and I visited and it was amazing there. I have completed close to 2 months of my 3 month placement here and am preparing for the take off of my next adventure.
I am headed to Guatemala for two weeks following the end of my time with KSTR and then will be returning to Costa Rica for another volunteer placement in Uvita(not too far from where I am now!)
Now here is where I am asking for your support! I have all my transportation covered to get to Guatemala and back. However being confined by a weekly schedule in a foreign country doesn't allow me to make the money needed to cover accommodations food and any extra travel costs! Plus the program tuition and travel expenses cost us roughly $22,400. Gratefully my grandparents generously donated the first chunk to hold my place in the program then I fundraised for the rest to secure my first semester. Well that is over and I am halfway through the second. My goal is to raise enough to cover the end of this semestern and my following travel plans going forward! Which would all come out to about $8,000. I plan to use this as a tool for fundraising as well as using https://www.bonfire.com/hannahsjourneyofeducationandservice/ to sell shirts supporting my journey. So if you'd like to buy one and help me reach my goal then please check out the link above!
Every little bit helps, if you can donate more or even less, you still receive my full commitment to the planet. And please check out the link above, they are awesome shirts! Thank you so much. I love you all!
