Shennea's Journey to Recovery

"UPDATE"

Hi! My name is Chris Adkison and I wanted to tell you about a friend of mine. She has a genuine ability to laugh and light up a room despite many obstacles she has had to face here lately. She is quick witted and always has the best punch lines. Sadly she was diagnosed with Von-hippel-lindau syndrome few years ago, for those of you who don't know about it here is a brief generic description. Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is a hereditary condition associated with hemangioblastomas, which are blood vessel tumors of the brain, spinal cord, eyes, ears, kidneys, adrenal glands and Pancreas. People with VHL also have an increased risk of developing of kidney cancer and pancreatic cancer; and pheochromocytomas, which is a tumor of the adrenal gland that can cause high blood pressure, and in severe cases heart attacks and strokes.
Due to having a pheochromocytoma, Shennea had one of her adrenal glands taken out in 2009. She has since battled with numerous tumors in her brain,  spinal cord,  adrenal gland and eyes, throughout the last few years. She recently found out she had to have another surgery to remove one of several tumors on her spinal cord, which was causing her to lose feeling in her, right leg and constant pain throughout her body! Monday (January 5, 2015) at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Shennea had surgery to have the tumor removed. Everything went as planned and she came out as expected! She can move her left leg but it is very spastic and not very well controlled. As for her right leg, it is extremely sensitive to touch and she does not have much movement but she is gaining it more and more everyday. Shennea is in good spirits and is taking everyday like a champ.
After 8 days in the hospital she has been moved to Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation hospital in Nashville where she is expected to stay for 5 weeks.

Now is the part I see a need and I believe that there are people out there that would be willing to help! The surgery is causing a huge financial strain on her and as well as her family! As of now Shennea’s mom has time to take off of work to be with her in Nashville, but eventually will have to return to work in Indiana.
Her family in no way has asked for a financial handout but I thought it only appropriate to reach out to my community and see if we can help her mom and help with some of the financial things they are having to take care of! I am going to set my goals high and ask that we try to raise $10,000. This journey of hers will take about a year and expenses add up quickly. So I believe this goal is acceptable and should cover her needs at Rehab as well as her moms hotel stays, gas (being that her mother will travel back and forth from TN to Indiana), meals, her current deductibles of $2,000 and also some of her many other medical bills and expenses. Also, the main expense that her family currently is facing is the living arrangements that she will return to. Being that she will not be able to go up and down stairs her current place of residence will not meet her needs and Shennea and her mom will need to move into a new place of residence that is suitable to her wheelchair and other needs.
If you would like to donate just click on the donate button at the top and follow the directions. All funds will be going to help the family and it would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get some people together to help them with some much needed financial relief.

Also, If you can donate Leave her a little note encouragement. She will appreciate that just as much!
