Journey to Kokoda - Documentary

Hi there,

I'm Dan and i'm about to take on one of the hardest challenges in the world. But i'll get to that. Firstly a little background about why i'm doing it.

I'm 35 and i've suffered Anxiety and Depression for most of my life. It made me a shell of a person for many many years and I spent most of my early 20’s on the sidelines and out of the game that was my life. But then, after taking action and seeking help I managed to pull my life together enough to start thinking about what I want out of it. Slowly but persistently I pushed through my anxiety and began doing things to improve my life. The anxiety was still there but gradually as I pushed myself further and further each day it lessened and so did my depression.

Then in 2011 I took a huge leap of faith and flew across the world to Alaska where I travelled alone for 4 weeks. As I trekked through the wilderness I came face to face with bears, wolves and white water rapids. This trip changed me. It showed me what I was capable of.

Its 2018…. Time for something amazing!
Time for another challenge!

In September this year I will be walking the Kokoda Track.

For those of you who don’t know, The Kokoda Track stretches 96 kilometers through what is arguably some of the most rugged and wild jungle in the world.

Given that I still suffer anxiety I want to use my skills as a film maker to document my journey from planning and training through to the actual trek itself.  I know i'm going to struggle though this journey and no doubt will have set backs and hurdles to overcome. But I want to show that a life with mental health issues can still be rewarding and amazing.

The documantary will be produced over the space of about 8 months and will require a lot of time in front of and behind the camera following my day to day and week to week challenges. The trip itself will have its own environmental challenges. 10 days in the hot, wet and humid jungle with no power should be interesting.

So here's where i need your help! I've paid for my trip but I need some equipment to film with. I have some gear but none of it is appropriate for the Jungle or the kind of activities I'll be filming.  My long list of wishes includes items like GoPros, Gimbles, Portable power supplies, batteries, memory cards and more.

Any help would be fantastic and I'd love to get is ASAP so i can start this thing filming.

On a seperate note, I am Hiking with Mates in Construction. An organisation created to support Suicide Awareness and General Positive Mental Health within the construction industry. I will be opening a seperate fundraising page for them once I have reached my first goal.

Cheers

Dan
