Josie's Volunteer Abroad - Africa

Hello everyone! My name is Josie Daniel and I am currently a senior at Michigan State University, graduating in May of 2018. I am a Zoology major and have always had a strong passion for wildlife conservation. It has long been a dream of mine to travel to Africa to  work with and protect the indigenous animals residing in their natural habitat. I was fortunate enough to learn about Reach Out Volunteers, an international charity organization and volunteer program to which I have been accepted for a 3 week program in South Africa for May 2018. This program offers the opportunity to be immersed in the conservation efforts in game parks and reserves in which we will be staying.  Efforts include  monitoring, tracking and researching elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, and more, and protecting these endangered populations through poacher monitoring. In addition to these wildlife conservation efforts, ROV also offers the chance to volunteer in local villages and assist in community develpoment projects for local residents stricken by extreme poverty. Projects include infrastructure construction of homes, classrooms, water catchments, and recreational equipment for the local children.  These efforts will supply food, water, and shelter to the poorest villagers.


With this opportunity comes travel, accomdation, and project costs, which brings me to the point of this page.  I have set my goal to raise $4000 with these factors in mind.  These conservation and development projects carried out by ROV are not possible without their volunteers, funding from program costs, and donations to the organization.
